Ngorongoro Crater
The Ngorongoro Crater is the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, formed when a giant volcano collapsed on itself around 2-3 million years ago. The crater floor, roughly 260 square kilometres, sits about 600 metres below the rim and holds one of the densest concentrations of wildlife found anywhere in Africa — an entire ecosystem hemmed in by steep, forested walls.
Because the crater's water and grazing are available year-round, animals rarely need to migrate out, making it one of the most reliable places on the continent to see the Big Five in a single day, including the critically endangered black rhino.

Best Time to Visit
The crater can be visited year-round. The dry season (June to October) offers the easiest game viewing conditions, while the wet season (November to May) brings lush green scenery and newborn animals.
Climate
The crater rim is notably cooler than the floor due to elevation — pack a warm layer for early morning descents, even though temperatures on the crater floor itself are warm and pleasant.
